While in Texas for Christmas Break, I needed to fill my breakfast taco quota. Living in Phoenix, the quality of our breakfast tacos is seriously lacking. Thus, every time I end up in Austin, I try to eat as many breakfast tacos as I can. I decided to go to a favorite from when I lived in North Campus at the University of Texas, Austin. After confirming open hours on Yelp, I headed off to my destination: Mi Madres.
While their hours are more limited in that they only serve during “breakfast/lunch” hours, waking up extra early and going to bed extra hungry is worth it. I ordered their breakfast burrito, which was eggs, bacon, potatoes, cheese, beans, and avocado. This is served with a spicy tomatillo salsa, that offers a nice complement to their house red salsa served with chips.
Overall, it was uniformly great. While no single ingredient was a “9″, no single ingredient was a “7″ either. Talk about consistency throughout a burrito. The only downside to this place is the hours.
